Finding the Right Therapist in Missouri can be challenging and time-consuming.

Take a look at who I am to see if I’m a good fit.

Meet Dr. Florence Lewis Ph.D. LMFT

Welcome!

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has practiced for over 10 years.

State of Missouri #2020022680

The clients I tend to have the most success helping generally identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and LGBTQ+.

I may be the right therapist for you if…..

  • You are ready to do the work.

  • You understand that I’m not going to wave my magic therapy want and have your problems disappear.

  • You are ready to talk honestly about what is working for you and where you need help.

  • You are receptive to feedback and maybe are already doing things on your own to promote your personal growth.

  • You appreciate straight talk and someone being upfront and honest with you.

I am an active participant in your treatment. I’m committed to honoring you and your experiences and helping you achieve your therapy goals. My job is to equip you with the tools you need to live your best life.

Commitment to Inclusive Practice

For the whole of my career, I have been fortunate to serve predominantly BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities all over the U.S.

These are the populations that I enjoy working with and that bring me the most professional and personal fulfillment. Inclusive practice is the root of my approach to being a skilled mental health professional.

Everyone desires to be provided with a safe space to examine their romantic relationships and be provided with the tools to have healthy, meaningful relationships

Therapeutic Approaches

What are my Therapeutic Approaches?

  • Trauma-Informed

The trauma-informed approach is geared towards incorporating the impact of psychological trauma. This is a holistic approach that incorporates how the mind, body, and social relationship can be impacted by previous traumatic experiences. For some, taking into account the impact of trauma is the key to their healing process, especially in their romantic life.

  • Look at the Context of Relationships & Attachment Styles

Contextual Family Therapy is an approach rooted in relationships. Attachment theory is a child development model that has been extended to conceptualize the tendencies of adults in relationships. You may be familiar with the discussion of attachment styles: secure, insecure, anxious, and avoidant. We are in relationships for a reason, it’s a part of our human nature to connect with others. This therapeutic approach focuses on the balance in relationship and relational expectations. Through this lens, conflict in a relationship is directly related to inappropriate expectations and ineffective communication.

  • Solution - Focused

The solution-focused is all about focusing on solutions rather than problems. In therapy, we talk about what it will look like when the problem is no longer there and how you’ve solved similar problems in the past. This approach unlocks the skills you have already gathered to solve your problems.

  • Strength-Based

The purpose of a strength-based approach is to give you a realistic hope that you will find a solution to the problem you are having. You are resilient and resourceful. In most cases, you already possess the tools you need to overcome the situation you are currently facing. Being strength-based means that I will empower you to unlock the potential that you already possess.

  • BPSS-C

BPSS-C is a long acronym that stands for a biological, psychological, social, and spiritual-cultural model. This means as we discuss how problems are causing issues in your life, these are the areas where you may see the impact. This encompasses all areas of health, wellness, and overall well-being.
